Campus Sustainability Month 2024

October is recognized nationally as Campus Sustainability Month. 

2024 Events

• • The field day will have multiple stations that include lawn games, crafts, plants, and yoga centered around reconnecting with nature, and wellness. Light refreshments will be provided. This event is a collaboration between the URecFit & Wellness and the Office of Sustainability.
  • Wednesday, Oct. 2 from noon - 2 p.m., School of Nursing Courtyard
• • Come spend a day of active learning with national climate change and health equity thought leaders, 汤头条, Baltimore (UMB) and 汤头条, College Park faculty and students, and local climate nonprofit and community groups.
  • Wednesday, Oct. 9 from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., Elm Ballroom
• • This hybrid town hall will provide updates to the UMB community on progress toward the Sustainability Strategic Plan, and communicate ongoing and new campus sustainability initiatives, and address feedback and suggestions from the UMB community.
  • Wednesday, Oct. 9 from 2 - 3:30 p.m., Pharmacy Hall N111
• Meet the Founder: The Crow's Nest with The Grid
  • This Meet the Founder event features Leonardo Martinez-Diaz, a climate activist and policy expert, photographer, and arts advocate originally from Mexico City. Leo founded in Baltimore City, and he has served in several senior positions related to international climate diplomacy in the Obama and Biden administrations and in non-profit organizations. The Crow's Nest is "an art incubator that provides workspace, social space, and exhibition space for anyone seeking to address the twin challenges of climate change and environmental justice..."  This event is a collaboration between The Grid and the Office of Sustainability. Lunch will be provided.
  • Thursday, Oct. 17 from noon - 1 p.m., The Grid (HSHSL, 3rd floor)
• • An educational event about house plants, including the benefits of having them and tips and tricks for caring for them. Attendees will get a chance to take home a plant of their own. This event will be led by Victoria Meadows of UMB's Office of Enterprise Risk Management. This event is a collaboration between the Office of Enterprise Risk Management and the Office of Sustainability.
  • Tuesday, Oct. 22 from 12:15 - 1 p.m., The Grid (HSHSL, 3rd floor)
• • Drop by our basecamp at the beginning of your shift to check in and get supplies. Swing back by the basecamp at the end of your shift to drop off your full trash bags! If you are a staff member who is interested in using 1-4 hours of paid volunteer leave for this event, you can view and print the required paperwork found on the Community Engagement website.
  • Wednesday, Oct. 23 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., outside HSRF III

  • Items Accepted: Books, batteries, ink/toner cartridges, electronics, plastic bags, and film

Alignment with Strategic Plan:

Education and Engagement: Create and maintain a constant communication flow with the entire campus community regarding sustainability. Communicate to the campus on a regular basis with initiatives and tips to keep sustainability a part of the UMB culture.
